IELTS Listening Tips1.Predict the topic and question- 

It helps you to listen if you know what kind of conversation is taking place so you can picture it in your head, so look through the each question in the time you are given so that you have the idea what to write. Try to predict the next question while you are listening the conversation. for example in the first section test takers often listen to names, place, numbers. have a look at the question in time provided and work out what needs to go in the space whether it is a number? or a name? or an address.

2.Be careful with order of the questions- 

It is one of the most important ielts listening tips to keep in mind. Often you have a table to complete and sometimes a diagram or chart. The questions will not go form left to right, so you must check the progression carefully otherwise you will get confused and loose your focus.

3. Look through the questions- 


At the start of every section you are given 30 seconds to read the questions, use that time to read the questions carefully and after every section 30 seconds are provides to check the answer, instead of checking the answer use the time to read the questions of next sections so that you have 1 min (30+30 seconds) to read the question. Note- you will have 10 mins to transfer your answer at that time you can check your answer side by side.

4. Look at two questions at one time- 

Doing this you will have the idea of what to answer in the next question and if you are lost in between and you have read two questions at once that you will come to know that you have missed the question and you will focus on the next one.

5. Move on if you miss a answer- 

Do not get panic or take tension if you realize that you have missed the answer instead of it ignore that and just move on to the next question. If you panic then that might affect your performance for the rest of answers.

6. Watch out the spelling and ignore the words you do not know-

Do keep a check on your spelling incorrect spelling will cost you as a wrong answer. If you do not the word just ignore that in listening you don not need to know the meaning just listen to the audio and answer the question.

7. Get used to British accent –

Be prepared to listen to all the accents as you hear accent like Australian, American, European countries. But majority of accent used is British, so get used to it, listen to British audios

8. Read the instructions-

It is an important ielts listening tips, do read the instructions before beginning the test. As there are different instruction given on different parts, for example some times it is mention write down one word answer, some time not more than three words, tick one of the answers. If you write more or any thing else it will be considered as a wrong answer.

9. Use of upper or lower case letter- 

It is often asked whether to write the answer in upper case or lower case. But it really doesn’t matter you can write in any case you want you will not be penalized. For example if you write ‘rome ‘ instead of ‘Rome’ you will not be penalized it will be considered as a correct answer.

10.Listen very carefully- 

Another important ielts listening tips is listen to the audio very very carefully with proper concentration as the audio is played only once and do check your headphones before starting the test. Defective headphones will create problems during the test as you will not understand any thing and skip many questions.

11.Don’t leave the answer blank- 

Even if you do not know the answer, just write down any thing according to question or just make a guess.There might be a chance the answer comes out to be correct. Do not leave the answer blank you will not get penalized for that. Even you leave it for time being do remember to write something when extra 10 mins are provided.

12. Do not loose your concentration- 

Focus on the audio as it will not be repeated and try not to get distracted by your surroundings. Pre- check everything like headphones, whether you have all the stationary needed so that you do not panic on the time when they are needed

13.Practice practice and practice-
