Task2

Ques: Small shops in towns are replaced by big shopping malls. Discuss positive and negative impacts?

Answer:

This is a true fact to consider that present world has become global village. Therefore, people are attracted towards to buy their all necessities from the competitive market that benefits them in any way. And this has resulted increase in the number of shopping malls that are established in past few years in almost all cities of the world to lure people towards them. Considering this it has both the positive and negative impact.

Analyzing the statement, it is a known fact that majority of shopping decisions are influenced by two main factors- cost and convenience. Large shopping mall provide both these factors very effectively. As these malls purchase the goods in bulk due to which they have more profit and then they sell them at low price than the shopkeepers. More over, collecting in bulk help the mall owner to display variety of products and mostly branded products are sold with excellent quality fibers. Further more, these malls have wide range of sections under one roof which make them convenient. For example, people can easily find electronics, clothing, grocery and sports items in one place which save their time.

Additionally, due to large competition large malls also employ people to serve to their customers thus generating jobs. These people help customers to buy according to their need. Another reason is facilities like parking space, recreational activities, air conditioners, food points and café has made these malls more successful.

On the flip side, it also has some disadvantage like customers can not bargain in malls as the owner has displayed the fixed prices and sometimes they just waste money buying things which are beyond their approach and they don't need as they are enticed by the new good looking things. Traditional way of shopping is going down.

To summarize, though shopping malls have both positive and negative impact but I believe advantages outweigh the disadvantages. And more over I think that it will take some more time might be years to completely replace the shopping malls.

Task 2

Ques: Some people believe that children’s leisure activities must be educational otherwise they waste complete time. Do you agree or disagree? Support your answer with your example.

Answer:

The manner in which children spent their free time varies from one to another. It can be related to education, sports or any other thing. Earlier students had time to play games, walk in the garden or gossip with the others. But due to hectic schedules, today students have little time to spend on leisure activities because of increasing competitive level in education.

Analyzing the statement, pupils should be involved in tasks which are related to education but utilizing spare interval performing healthy activities and watching television will help in their health and concentration. Young people are required to perform body movements for improving physical abilities. For instance, planning a time table in school which always include some periods dedicated to sports will results in their motion and help them maintain their physical fitness. This also helps in developing overall skills and personality.

More over, continuous focus towards studies can result in the problems related to the concentration. For example, if a student is asked to perform educational task in extra time also, there are chances they might start feeling frustrated. Instead, if they utilize their free span of time in watching television, or do any other recreational activity where they feel relax, calm and comfortable. Like this he will be more attentive when he starts learning again.

In the nutshell, getting engrossed in activities other than educational not only helps to improve health but also fosters the mental level. This, clearly debunks the idea that free time activities should be educational. I believe that other physical activities make us feel fresh and healthy. It is accepted that parents will be made aware of advantages of spending free moments doing other tasks.

Try to predict the next question while you are listening the conversation. for example in the first section test takers often listen to names, place, numbers. have a look at the question in time provided and work out what needs to go in the space whether it is a number? or a name? or an address.

2.Be careful with order of the questions-

It is one of the most important ielts listening tips to keep in mind. There are many types of question format, mostly you have a table to fill and sometimes a diagram or chart. The questions will be in order not form left to right, so you must check the progression carefully otherwise you will get confused and loose your focus.

3. Look through the questions-

At the start of every section you are given 30 seconds to read the questions, use that time to read the questions carefully and after every section 30 seconds are provides to check the answer, instead of checking the answer use the time to read the questions of next sections so that you have 1 min (30+30 seconds) to read the question. Note- you will have 10 mins to transfer your answer at that time you can check your answer side by side.

4. Look at two questions at one time-

Doing this you will have the idea of what to answer in the next question and if you are lost in between and you have read two questions at once that you will come to know that you have missed the question and you will focus on the next one.

5. Move on if you miss a answer-

Do not get panic or take tension if you realize that you have missed the answer instead of it ignore that and just move on to the next question. If you panic then that might affect your performance for the rest of answers.

Be prepared to listen to all the accents as you hear accent like Australian, American, European countries. But majority of accent used is British, so get used to it, listen to British audios

As there are different instruction given on different parts, for example some times it is mention write down one word answer, some time not more than three words, tick one of the answers. If you write more or any thing else it will be considered as a wrong answer.

9. Use of upper or lower case letter-

It is often asked whether to write the answer in upper case or lower case. But it really doesn’t matter you can write in any case you want you will not be penalized. For example if you write ‘rome ‘ instead of ‘Rome’ you will not be penalized it will be considered as a correct answer.

10.Listen very carefully-

Another important ielts listening tips is listen to the audio very very carefully with proper concentration as the audio is played only once and do check your headphones before starting the test. Defective headphones will create problems during the test as you will not understand any thing and skip many questions.

11.Don’t leave the answer blank-

Even if you do not know the answer, just write down any thing according to question or just make a guess. There might be a chance the answer comes out to be correct. Do not leave the answer blank you will not get penalized for that. Even you leave it for time being do remember to write something when extra 10 mins are provided.

12. Do not loose your concentration-

Focus on the audio as it will not be repeated and try not to get distracted by your surroundings. Pre- check everything like headphones, whether you have all the stationary needed so that you do not panic on the time when they are needed
